Rick Gerardus is a cultural producer, director, and curator with extensive experience as a workshop manager, craftsman, sculpture technician, and installation artist, working between New York City and Berlin. He founded and curates The Cities Wrapped Around Our Bodies, an exhibition format launched in 2024 with events at Kunsquartier Bethanien and the Babylon. Gerardus is member and the chairman of TCWAOB e.V., a Berlin-based alliance promoting intersectional solidarity and equity among international journalists, artists, academics, curators and designers. He initiated and directed the creation of The Virtual Kotti, a digitized model of Berlin’s Kottbusser Tor, dedicated to self-representation, speculative prototyping and cross-collaboration, funded by the Senate for Culture and Social Cohesion. With support of Arts of the Working Class, Gamelab.Berlin, Humboldt, Decaynews, Recom Berlin, and Möglichkeitsraum Kotti, TCWAOB has hosted the Kiarostami Short Film Festival and Savvy Contemporary. Previously General Manager at Recom Art, Gerardus continues to work as a freelance exhibition producer. He served as production manager for Solidarity Prints, a charity campaign that raised over €200,000 for non-governmental organisations. He holds a diploma in journalism and, as a student of Visual Arts under the mentorship of Hito Steyerl, was awarded the title of Meisterschüler (EQF/DQR Level 8, doctoral level). Gerardus grew up in Kreuzberg 36, Berlin and maintains strong ties to the neighbourhood.
